Murder of Israeli Athletes at Munich Olympics

April 27, 2016

In 1972, during the Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, eleven Israeli athletes competing in the Olympics along with a German Police officer were taken hostage. They were taken by Black September, a Palestenian terrorist group. They had already killed two athletes before they had kidnapped the nine others.

The terrorists demanded the release of 234 prisoners in Israel by 9 a.m. The negotiators were able to extend the deadline, but Israel refused to meet the terrorists' demands. Black September would not back down on their demands. Because of this, the only option left was a confrontation.

The terrorists and the hostages were transported to Fürstenfeldbruck airport. The Germans set up a trap for the terrorists there. Snipers were waiting for the terrorists. A fight broke out, two terrorists and one police officer were killed. The terrorists ended up killing all of the hostages. Afterwards, three terrorists were killed and three were taken into custody.
